On June 22, HHS announced that five commercial laboratory companies would soon begin offering monkeypox testing. and can accept specimens from anywhere in the country.* Quest’s testing will continue to increase the current capacity provided through CDC’s Laboratory Response Network (LRN), Labcorp, and Mayo Clinic Laboratories, providing testing capacity of up to 60,000 specimens per week by the end of July. Quest will offer monkeypox virus testing at the company’s advanced laboratory in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. Quest is also verifying CDC’s orthopoxvirus test and plans to make it available to healthcare providers in the first half of August. The test is now available to healthcare providers nationwide (except in New York)*. The company has developed a real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test that uses patient swab specimens to qualitatively detect non-variola orthpoxviruses and monkeypox virus DNA. NOTE: Students in professional training classes and primary/secondary school students do not qualify.Starting today, Quest Diagnostics will begin testing for monkeypox. All of test results will be sent directly to your Quest account. Additionally, if one or more of your results is for a positive sexually transmitted disease (STD) or HIV result, you will receive a call directly from the PWN care coordination team. If one or more of your results indicates that you need prompt attention, you will receive a call directly from the PWN care coordination team. Before submitting your payment for your testing purchase, you will see the fees collected on behalf of PWN for their services to you. You will also have the opportunity to speak with a PWN physician to discuss the lab results, and in some states (and for adults only), the Licensed PWN physician will be able to provide treatment for some conditions. PWN services include physician oversight of all tests (based upon the information that you share), including ordering tests, if appropriate, and evaluating results once available. Quest is working with PWNHealth LLC and its affiliated professional entities (collectively, PWN) to provide independent physician services to you in connection with Quest.
